So for others struggeling, i figured it out. The mode the controller must be in is actually the one with LED in Blue than it works fine with DMD2.

I can confirm the map download bug not finishing is resolved for me with the latest version.

DMD 2.99939 with Carpe Iter Pad older version

Map downloads do not work correctly. Smaller ones like Netherlands seem to work, but Alps or Germany North just stop in the middle of the download without any error message shown.
