For the following, The tablet is powered by the pins in the mount only. The controller is connected to the 3 way splitter.

Starting up the tablet for the first time after connecting the Remote 2 controller via cable, I go to the Buttons app to run a buttons test. The 2 buttons record a press and release, so does the bottom toggle switch.

The top Joystick is doing/recording all all kinds of crazy things without being touched. When I do manually move it, it doesn’t record my movement. It just keeps recording random parameters, goes thru a whole list of stuff, without the joystick being touched.

When I go to the DMD map screen, the buttons seem to function like they’re supposed to and the bottom toggle does make the screen zoom in and out. But the Joystick does nothing.

What is the Bullseye icon on the map that replaces the arrow? Is that a Pan icon?

When that Bullseye icon is on screen, the icon/map moves slowly by itself, with no input from me.

Is the Buttons app the only thing required for the controller to work properly?

What do the red and blue lights on the controller mean? I’ve seen them steady red and blue and flashing red and blue.
    Thanks.

Thats not how the Remote 2 is supposed to work, it seems you have a bad joystick circuit.

Blue LED -> blinking means advertising for accepting BT connection, fixed means there is a BT device connected
Red LED -> Means a cable connection was established

Since it was working before, and now it is not, and since this original post was:

“When the 865X tablet is 12v powered from the pins in the mount, will the Remote 2 Controller receive 12v power when it’s directly connected to the back port on the tablet, instead of the 3 way splitter?
I’m trying to make the wiring routing and connections of the harness as minimal and clean as I can.”

-> This damages not only the joystick but probably also the tablet. It does a direct 12V to the coms connection in the remote. This basically will damage the remote exactly like what you just wrote.

Im going to say what i always say, EVERY, i mean EVERY SINGLE TIME, i see a message either on the forum or facebook about how the user decided to change the harness or connect stuff different then whats in the manual, some hours later or days later, they will complain the charging / holder / harness / tablet / whatever is no longer working….

There’s a Manual? I didn’t receive one in my package. I’ve been trying to learn this tablet from videos and other info wherever I can find it. Excluding Facebook and platforms like that.

Sorry for the confusion. Poorly worded I guess. I wasn’t going to connect the Remote 2 to the tablet directly without asking first. The Tablet being able to take 12v from both the mount pins and the rear port, I wondered if the rear port also had a 12v out pin that would power the Remote directly. I hadn’t started installation on the bike yet but figured it didn’t hurt to ask. Hopefully, the Manual instructs NOT to do this.

I hadn’t gotten a response by the time I had figured out routing for the harness, decided where and how to connect it to bike power and had the Remote installed on the handlebars. So I did connect the remote to the 3 way splitter.

I’d read that connecting the 3rd leg of the splitter to the back of the tablet was optional, so I did not.

From what I understand, it’s the Buttons app that runs the Controller. I don’t remember getting a popup for Controller Accessibility on startup. But then, there was a lot of stuff popping up on screen at the same time, notifications and such, wanting updates and such. Was a little overwhelming. Had to clear them before messing with the Controller. The videos I’ve seen mention an Accessibility Service that has to be enabled for the Controller. Can’t remember where I found it in Settings, but it was set to ON.

Wondering if there’s any other settings that need to be enabled for the Controller to work properly. I had 3 days before I started install of the tablet on the bike to try to get familiar with it’s layout, the 2 settings menus and how to generally get around in it. Wondering if I disabled something I shouldn’t have. I the last 3 days, I’ve been all thru the 2 Setting menus denying permissions and access to apps and functions I will never use.

Is there a way to reset the 865X tablet back to factory condition as if it just came out of the box?

I’m going to try disconnecting the cable for the cradle/pins and power the tablet from the back port.

A few other questions I haven’t found answers to:
The red charging light in the lower left corner lights up when charging via USB. Is it also supposed to light up when on 12v bike power?

What’s are the 2 lenses just along the left side of the tablet? I’m guessing one is the camera lens, the other a light sensor?

    Thanks.

    Update: Some success!

I use a PDM60 load center to power accessories. I programmed the circuit I had the tablet on to 4A output and to be triggered with ignition on a 7 second delay, like I have my other accessories timed to.

Yesterday, when I was having the joystick issues, I noticed that the tablet would initial take 12v upon start up, the lightning bolt was in the battery indicator, and then after a few seconds it would disappear, telling me it wasn’t taking the 12v supply. I checked the load center, it was telling me there was a fault in that circuit, and the center shuts down that circuit. So the controller wasn’t getting a 12v source.

This morning, I swapped the tablets 12v power to another circuit of the load center and I disconnected the cable for the table mount pins. Connected the power source from one of the 3 way legs to the back port of the tablet.

Turned the bikes ignition to ON. After the 7 second programmed delay, my other accessories started, as did the Tablet. Good sign. The tablet didn’t start automatically with ignition before. I had to turn it on manually. I went to the Button app, the blue light on the controller turned to solid red and the app stated the cable connection was detected. I ran thru the buttons test again. All buttons showed their respective press and release modes. The joystick seemed to functioned properly as well, with recording all movements. Toggle switch good too. No un-commanded recordings in the buttons test.

I also noticed the red controller light was bright, solid and steady. As before, is was kinda fluttery.

Opened the DMD map to test the controller. Everything worked except pan. I remember disabling a pan function or maybe was just the screen icon, I don’t know, maybe that has something to do with the actual pan function of the controller. I didn’t check to see if Controller Accessibility was still ON but I would think it would be, as I haven’t changed it, because I have unable to find it again. Like a lot of settings, I can’t remember where they are. I need to try to find that Pan icon again and re-enable it.

I made the mistake during troubleshooting and changed more than 1 thing at a time to try to fix the problem I was having earlier. I don’t know if it was the changing to a different power circuit or changing by which method the tablet gets its 12v.

I’ve had trouble with pin type interfaces before, like what’s on this tablet/mount. When I first took the tablet out of the box and looked at the pins, it appears some are obviously lower, don’t stick up as high as others. With what I’ve experienced this morning, I’m wondering if the mount interface is not making good contact at points and that caused the load center to shut that circuit down when it sensed a fault. The load center resets after cycling the ignition. Then the same thing would happen the next time the ignition was turn on. What made me realize it was losing its 12v connection was, the “auto shutdown in 15 seconds” popup kept coming up.

But it all works properly now, except for panning of the map with the joystick. Need help with Settings that absolutely have to be enabled for that to work.

    Thanks
