ParticipantI checked the tablets IMEI with my cell carrier Verizon and it’s not compatible with the network.
So what carrier are others buying service from for their SIM card?

ParticipantTip, you can use WiFi hotspot on the phone and link the tablet to the phone for Internet access.

Yes, I set that up yesterday.
Was just wanting to cover the bases and get an idea what cell network carrier folks have found that works with this tablet, just in case I decide to go the SIM card route.

ParticipantI just got a T685X and tried AT&T but they wouldn’t support it either. Apparently as it has 3G antennas, I doubt there’s any US carriers that support the current hardware.

ParticipantI was contacted by some one that told me he used the IMEI from an older device, phone etc.. Said his carrier just needed a good IMEI number, one that is in the IMEI database, to register the new SIM card. He then put it in his 685 and it worked fine.
The IMEIs of these tablets are not in the database. So if you have or know of someone with an old phone, give it’s IMEI number to AT&T, see if they can then register a new SIM card.

ParticipantI would try Mint Mobile. It worked for me on a 665.
180$ for a year of phone and data isn’t bad either.

ParticipantThanks for the info. I checked the IMEI of my 685x with them and came back as compatible. Mint identified the Tablet as a Topicon MDT865.
Coverage isn’t too shabby for anyplace in the Central time zone and east. Anything west of Texas tho, is pretty spotty.

ParticipantYea, I’m on the East coast and it’s worked well for the two rides I’ve used it for.
edit: in Ohio, not exactly the east coast but…
used it to stream music while I was riding. Did about 3 hours and only used .03 of the 5GB of data I have so I’m thinking it’ll work for my needs.
Hoping you aren’t West of Texas.
I was told that it uses TMobile’s towers so I’m surprised to see any limitations in the US. I only checked my area though. (By entering my zip code)-

ParticipantI just heard from a person on ADVrider that they were able to work with a Verizon rep to get the T-865 IMEI numbering into their parent data base to make it available for all future users. So now Verizon may be an option too.

ParticipantI use mine on Verizon, I had to use an IMEI number from an Apple IPad to register the SIM card, then the Verizon guy installed it and it worked fine. My buddy worked with Verizon as well, did t have a tablet to borrow an IMEI against, but they figured out the manufacturer and SKU number and the Verizon rep loaded it in the Verizon data base so it should be good now.
